Directorate of Youth Welfare & Sports 

 

  Introduction  

 

The Directorate of Youth Welfare & Sports was created with the aim to provide overall development among the youth. Directorate of Youth Welfare & Sports is working in planned manner to provide basic facilities and training for the youth of Bihar.

 

The 21st Century belongs to the young generation. About 70% of the total population is of the age group ranging between 15 to 30 years. Today the youth are more conscious about their feature. For the proper channelisation of the energy and vigour of the youth several activities like Sports, NCC, NSS, Scouting and different other activities are very helpful. The directorate organizes sports tournament of various discipline and age groups including NCC, NSS and scouting activities. The Directorate also provides coaching facilities to the talented sports persons in various sports discipline.

  1. Bihar State Subrato Cup Football Tournament

     

    Every year the Department Organise inter School Tournament for Boys under the age group of 14 and 17 years.

     

     

    State Champion Team is send to participate in All India Inter School Subrato Cup Football Tournament organized by Subrato Society.

  1. Bihar State Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Tournament

     

    Every year state level Inter-District Major Dhyanchand Hockey Tournament is organized by Directorate and the winning team represents the State in All India Nehru Hockey Tournament on Govt. Expenditure.

  1. Bihar State School Tournament

     

    Vidyalay Khel: Every year the department organizes "School Sports" in different disciplines at Block, District, Division and State Level for different age groups. Selected teams after coaching represent the state in National Tournament organized by S.G.F.I. on govt. expenditure. On the basis of Annual Sports Calendar prepared by the Directorate, all the events of sports are organized at deferent places in the State.

Bihar State Sports Authority organises mainly two types of sports activities:

 

PYKKA Sports 

Discipline: Football, Volleyball, Athletic, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Hockey, Wrestling, Weight Lifting.

Age Limit: Under 16 (boys and girls)

Tournament/Selection trail is organised at block, district and state level. State Team represents the State in National Rural Games on Sports Authority's or State Govt.'s expenditure.

Women's Sports 

Discipline: Athletic, Kabaddi, Kho-kho, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton, Table Tennis, Basketball, Lawn Tennis.

Age Limit: No age limit.

 

Selected teams, after the coaching, represent the state in National Women's Festival on govt. cost.

 
 

 

On every 29th August (the Birth anniversary of great giggler Major Dhyanchand),is organised to honour outstanding sports persons from various disciplines. In this award, memento and cash prize is given. It is one of the most prestigious sports award in Bihar.

 

  Grants

 

Sports Person
Welfare Fund
Govt. provides aid to the Sports Person according to their need. It depends on the availability of fund. For this selection are made on the basis of Govt. rule. Sports Person may apply before the 25th day of the month, every month.
Participation
Grant

Govt. also provides aid to sportsperson for participation in National and International Tournament under the Govt. provision and rule.

Organisation
Grant

For organization of national and international level tournament, government provides grant under the provision and rule every year according to the budget. Sports Association may apply before 25th day of the month, every month.

  Border Area Development Programme 

 

Boarder area development programme (BADP), a centrally sponsored programme, was started during the 7th Five Year Plan with the objective of planned development of sensitive boarder areas in the western region through adequate provision of infrastructural facilities and promotion of a view of security amongst the local population. Boarder Area Development Programme covers 31 blocks of 7 districts in the State. The main objective of the programme is to meet the special needs of the people living in remote area situated near the boarder. It is 100% Centrally Funded programme.

Note: In this scheme, Stadium and Gymnasium Hall will be constructed in each block with sports facilities.

 

  NCC Directorate, Bihar 

 

N.C.C. was introduced in Bihar in the year 1948 with an initial strength of 5,100 cadets. The Directorate is located at CDA Complex, Rajendra Path, Patna. It controls complete NCC activities and is headed by Dy. Director General, NCC.

 

The Directorate has under it five GP-HQRS, i.e., Patna, Ranchi, Gaya, Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur - each commanded by a Colonel. Each of there GPs have 7 to 10 units. Apart from the Army Unit it has one Naval unit at Patna and two Air Units as well. At present, NCC training is available in 233 college and 293 Schools. Total cadet strength is 53,878 as on date.

 

The training programme of NCC aims to develop a disciplined youth force who would be the future leaders of our country. The cadets are provided training in disciplines like - drill, map reading, firing, sea and air training, motivational lecturers, field craft and battle drill, equipment training, nursing, etc. Various camps like - National Integration Camp, Annual Training C amp, Centrally Organised Camps, and RDC Camps - are also organised during the year for the benefit of the cadets.
